In the time that I've been involved in running online directories I've found that business often do not get results from their directory listings because they do not know how to do it. Here are a few tips to improve the results from your listings:
Select the best directory categories: It is vital that you select the most appropriate category for categories or your business because that is where visitors will be looking for your services. Often directories will allow you to list in additional categories for a small fee - consider paying this as it expands your exposure and it often allows you to target each listing to that category's visitors. Use a descriptive titel: Your listing titel (or company name) will normally serve as the heading of your listing and will determine whether visitos click through to your listing or not. Often company names are non-descriptive, e.g. A2Z Projects. Change your directory listing title to something more descriptive such as A2Z Web Design Projects using your main focus for the category you are listing in. Create an effective description: People search the Internet using keywords so use keywords in your description. A description such as: "We are a graded 3 star establishment offering 4 en suite double rooms and 1 twin room with a separate, private bathroom. We are within a 2km radius of WestCoast Park, beach, shops, restaurants and golf course. Our rates are competitive and we strive to give you a warm ,friendly stay on the West Coast" is rather meaningless and devoid of keywords. Your description's function is to attract visitors through keywords and then to get them to either contact you or to visit your web site. In the above example key phrases such as: Affordable accommodation", "Executive accommodation" or "luxury accommodation", "guest house" instead of establishment, correctly spelled "West Coast National Park", "full name for the golf course" would be much more effective. Don't rush your listing to get it done: Directories normally give you a certain number of characters for your listing description. Take time over it to create an effective listing otherwise you may just be wasting your time and, if you are paying for the listing, your money |
